Internet Links

I can barely remember what it was like being a writer before the internet, although I do believe we used to use something called 'reference books' and 'libraries'.  Seriously, though, the internet has been a huge boon to writers, but also in a funny way a bit of a curse.  It's so easy to find information, facts, ideas, research that you have to become both discerning and well disciplined when you are cruising the information highway.

The other potential downside, is that now everyone can be a writer.  That's great in one sense - it's wonderful for new writers to join the profession.  But many people write for free online, which has the result of de-valuing the work of those of us who write for a living.  Mind you, just because everyone can write, doesn't mean that they necessarily should.  Or to put it another way, just because I can run to the end of my road, doesn't mean you'll be watching me next year at the Olympics.

Here's a brief selection of genuinely useful internet links for writers:

www.societyofauthors.org - A union for writers, a fantastic source of support and advice - they will even 'vet' your writing contracts for you, which has been wonderfully helpful to me over the years.

www.weebly.com - A free website creation site, which makes creating a website so simple that even a techno-sceptic like me can do it.  This site, and my main site, www.suecowley.co.uk, were all created using Weebly.
